Reception - Willow

Reception Willow Class

During Terms 1 and 2 Willow Class loved learning all about our Wonderful World. We talked about ourselves, our families and where we live. We also investigated the topic of Minibeasts. As we settled into school we began learning about our school rules, routines and made new friends. We explored our school and went on colour walks, autumn walks and enjoyed looking at the weather and changes around us.

In Literacy we shared lots of picture books about the world around us, minibeasts and Christmas. We discussed the key events in the stories and looked at the different characters. We began learning our Phase 2 phonics sounds and letters and began to put these together to read and write simple words.

In Maths we looked at our numbers to ten ensuring we can recognise them and order them and count out a number of objects correctly.

We also found out about minibeasts and their habitats. We visited the Bug Man who showed us many different minibeasts and let us hold many of them! We also loved exploring Forest School. We roasted marshmallows on the fire, collected pine cones and much more!

We made bugs out of clay, cereal and lolly sticks. We explored fruit and vegetable printing, made our own shoes and explored creating representations with different materials.

Throughout the terms we developed our fine and gross motor skills through daily activities such as; dance, DiscoDough, threading and much more.

In RE our focus was Creation and Incarnation.

Our big question was: Why is the word God so important to Christians?

We ended a very busy Term with our Nativity and Christmas Party!

We are looking forward to another busy and fun couple of terms, learning all about Dinosaurs and Castles and much more in between!
